Your First Plant

Do you remember your first plant? The first time you planted a flower in the ground or brought
a beautiful pot of foliage into your home. You were probably kind of nervous. Will it live?
How much do I water it, did I give it too much?
My first plant was a long time ago. When I was little, my parents let me and my three younger siblings have a small plot in a flower bed. We each got to pick out a few flowers at the local nursery and then were responsible for planting and taking care of them. I don't really remember how the plants fared, but I do remember getting some flowers, so I must have done something right. I do remember that the flowers I picked were crossandras and gomphrenas. Beautiful orange and purple flowers, that are summertime annuals here in Florida.
What was the first plant that you remember? Maybe it was a pothos or a philodendron, a monstera or peperomia. Whatever it was, I'll bet you weren't sure if you would be able to take care of it. Being in charge of a living thing feels like a big responsibility. The feeling of accomplishment when you succeed is worth the effort though, isn't it.
